Course aim

To critique, analyse and appropriate the cultural, social, developmental and theological elements that contribute to construction of a contemporary and engaging Catholic ethos and religious education program in Catholic schools.

Course content

Constructions of Catholic educational philosophy; current directions in the light of history; theological and philosophical underpinnings of education; the school in church and community; critical examination of symbols, creeds and contemporary theology; tradition and the magisterium; research into religious and spiritual development; theological perspectives on the human person; the purposes for Catholic education; foundations for Catholic identity and religious education programs.
