Course aim

To equip students with the understandings and skills to teach religious education and the study of religion in Australian Catholic schools.

Course content

Challenges facing religious educators including competing theories of religion and religious education; understanding catechesis and evangelization; the importance of critical hermeneutic and cultural sensitivity including Catholic theology; recognize the place of foundational sources Church documents, Guidelines and Catholic Catechisms; the importance of the student's critical reflection on their own, and their students’ experience and culture; religious education curriculum development theory; justice education and religious education, evaluation and assessment.
