Course aim

To develop a thorough understanding of a range of approaches to educational research and to identify the strengths and limitations of each.

Course content

The nature of inquiry; ethics of educational research; design and planning; sampling; reliability and validity; styles of educational research; naturalistic research, observation and ethnography; experimental research; data analysis; survey research; case studies and critical incidents; strategies for data collection; writing the proposal.
