Cognitive Technologies and Learning

Course aim

To develop students' understanding of digital technologies for learning, the design of which reflects contemporary understanding of perceptual and neurocognitive mechanisms.

Course content

Students will understand the perceptual and neurocognitive mechanisms central to both human communication and to the technological possibilities for learning. The students will investigate digital technologies and theories of cognition, cognitive development and learning. The students will study recent advanced in cognitive science and neuroscience and implications for thinking and thinkers and will consider technologies and the amplification of cognition and learning in contemporary curricula. The students will also explore standard educational computer technologies and higher order thinking processes, the role of software agents in learning and cognitive development, technologies for visualising thinking, cognitive technologies and accommodating individual differences, new paradigms for embracing mind and digital technologies, computers as human protheses, and pharmaceutical technologies and learning.
