Course aim

Develop understanding of the analysis of structures. To introduce students to the basic theory of the finite element method and its applications in Civil Engineering.

Course content

Analysis of indeterminate structures. Frame analysis. Rigid frames. Energy methods in structural analysis. Deflections of beams and frames. Plastic analysis of beams and frames. Use of finite element techniques to solve problems. Applications of commercial finite element software packages in structural analysis.
