To further develop in pre-service teachers a body of knowledge related to children learning mathematics in the early and primary years of schooling. The development of professional skills related to teachers' planning and assessment of mathematics learning will be an integral part of this course.
Children’s understanding of mathematics with insights from research and practice; pre-service teachers’ understanding of assessment processes with an emphasis on authentic and rich assessment tasks; planning and assessment practices ‘for’ enhanced learning; giving timely and constructive feedback; and programming for long, medium and short term learning experiences. Working with national and local curricula for R to 7 mathematics; planning mathematical experiences for a whole class of children and evaluating a small group of children’s learning; resourcing a variety of suitable structured and non-structured learning materials, including IT, planning for the special needs of children at different levels and with a variety of learning needs.
