Learning Area Specialisation: Health and Physical Education

Course aim

To consolidate and broaden experiences and understanding of the principles of teaching Health and Physical Education in primary and middle school settings.

Course content

Curriculum construction in Health and Physical Education; scope, sequence and breadth of learning experiences and outcomes in Health and Physical Education; critique of curriculum frameworks; contemporary and enduring issues in Health and Physical Education; strategies for meeting diverse and special needs; critical aspects of the teaching and learning process; inclusive and equitable learning environments; establishing rich learning environments within and beyond the school settings; evaluating teaching and learning processes from technical and critical perspectives.

Completed a minimum of 18 units from the following courses including: HLTH 1013 Fitness and Lifestyle Management; HLTH 3024 Growth and Motor Development; HLTH 1022 Teaching and Learning of Motor Skills plus at least one of the following HLTH 1017 Group Dynamics; HLTH 2012 Dance as Education and Recreation; HLTH 2009 Sociology of Health and Physical Activity; HLTH 2013 Health Risks and Relationship Education; HLTH 3029 Introduction to Outdoor Leadership; FOSC 3010 Food and Society
