To introduce students to methods for the collection and analysis of data to facilitate continuous improvement in the hospitality industry.
The use of data for managing in hospitality, statistical variation, problem solving and process improvement methodologies, basic research methods including questionnaires, interviews and focus groups, sampling, measurement principles with application to service and process quality and organisational performance, the use of secondary data, basic process improvement tools such as the affinity process, summary statistics, tables, graphs, basic statistical inference including estimation and elementary hypothesis testing for paired and independent designs, correlation and regression, using software for data analysis, writing a quantitatively based report.
