Course aim

To enhance students’ critical understandings about theoretical approaches to ‘work’ and representations of work and workers.

Course content

What is work; historical, indigenous and theoretical approaches to understanding work; work and self/identity; representations of work and workers; work, production and consumption; employment, employability; work-related policies and legislation; approaches to and issues associated with organising contemporary (paid/unpaid) work and workers, politics of work, difference and exclusion; globalisation, technologies and work; work/life/self issues; working futures.
