Writing and Reading Short Fiction

Course aim

Students will practise reading and writing a range of short stories, subjects and techniques, which will enable students to write, read and critically discuss creative writing texts.

Course content

Students will develop skills and knowledge to understand short fiction, read, write and edit short fiction, prepare material for publication, and research short fiction. Students will be mentored to knowledgeably get integrated into the local and national writing scene, establish contact with the structures operating in the field, such as the Writers’ Centre, local presses, Arts SA, Australia Council and other organisations, which will help them maintain future professional development after graduation.

Prerequisite(s)

At least two courses in Writing and Creative Communication at Level 2/3 or by negotiation with the Course Coordinator. Not available to students who have successfully completed COMM 2058 Writing and Reading Texts B: Short Fiction.
