Course aim

Students will practise a range of poetic forms, subjects and techniques, which will enable students to write, read and critically discuss poetic texts.

Course content

Students will develop skills in understanding poetry, knowledge about fixed form poetry and free verse, they will read, write and edit poetry. Students will also develop skills in preparing material for publication, and researching poetry published in South Australia. They will mentored with a view to get integrated into the local and national poetry scene, and to establish contact with the structures operating in the field, such as the SA Writers’ Centre, Arts SA, Australia Council, local presses, Friendly Street Poets and other organisations, which will help them maintain future professional development after graduation.

Prerequisite(s)

At least two courses in Writing and Creative Communication at Level 2/3 or by negotiation with the Course Coordinator. Not available to students who have successfully completed COMM 2057 Writing and Reading Texts A: Poetry.
