To investigate and critically reflect upon the nature and functions of professional writing practices within community, professional, workplace and leisure settings.
Changing and contested views about the nature of writing, and its relationship to other communicative practices in professional and community contexts, such as public relations and other communication industries and roles; writing genres in different professional and community contexts; the researcher as writer and writer as researcher in these contexts; analysis of the function of writing in professional and community situations; introduction to and analysis of examples of qualitative/ethnographic research perspectives; design, conduct and writing of a report on a field research project.

At least four courses in Writing and Creative Communication, or by negotation with the Course Coordinator or the Program Director. Not available to students who have successfully completed COMM 3045 Writing and Community Practice.
