Course aim

To build upon the animation theory and practice presented in INFT 3011 and INFT 2059, and familiarise students with the complex concepts of ‘Dynamic’ animation techniques, processes, skills, and technologies and to further develop their theoretical understanding of 3D animation.

Course content

This course builds on the concepts presented within INFT 3011 Introduction to 3D Animation and INFT 2059 Character Driven 3D Animation, and provides students with the skills and techniques to create a 3D animation production, following the 3D animation pipeline. The pipeline includes: pitching a concept; developing a style guide; character and environment design; storyboarding; modelling; rigging; texturing; animating; lighting; setting up cameras; rendering and compositing. Students will develop their understanding of storytelling, style and design within 3D animated productions. Students will also engage with local industry leaders to further their understanding of professional practice in the animation and visual effects industry and develop advanced skills in Maya including character animation, dynamic systems and effects. The assessment tasks will provide students with the opportunity to work in small teams; combine all of the knowledge, skills and techniques presented within the three 3D animation courses; and to create an original 3D animated production.
