Course aim

To introduce students to the terms, concepts, techniques, processes, skills, technologies and theoretical underpinning of 3D animation for multimedia production and other forms of visual communication.

Course content

This course introduces students to the foundational theory, skills and techniques required to create short 3D animated productions; from idea generation, visual communication and character design, through to the technical processes of modelling, texturing, animating, lighting, setting up cameras and rendering in Maya. Students will engage with key theoretical topics linked to 3D animation, through presentations and class discussions. Students will also develop skills, concepts and ideas through structured exercises and studio time. The assessment tasks will provide students with the opportunity to combine these skills and techniques to create their own short 3D animated productions.
