Course aim
To enable students to develop advanced skills in critically analysing and applying contemporary family theory, concepts and approaches to assist families in conflict.
Course content
Students will develop advanced knowledge of family functioning and dynamics, the impact of separation on families, working with a child focus and child inclusive practice, including intervention orders and parenting plans and grief and loss theory.
Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge of property settlements in families post separation, elder centred practice, culturally sensitive practice in family disputes and indigenous and international perspectives.
Students will demonstrate cognitive skills to identify and respond to the dynamics of domestic and family violence, identify and respond to gender and power, assess and respond to safety concerns, screen for family and domestic violence, work with adolescents.
