Course aim

To extend further students’ spoken and written communication in English as an additional (second or foreign) language at an advanced level and to introduce a study of the emergence of International or World Englishes and literature/s.

Course content

This course focuses on academic English, World Englishes and International Literature. Students in this course will explore the influences of other languages and of other literary traditions on the development of English literature. The course also offers an opportunity for students to explore the influence of World Englishes in relation to languages, literatures and film in their own countries/regions. Attention is directed towards the role of literature in educational, social, economic and political debates. Emphasis will be placed on research, review, analysis, interpretation and the application of linguistic and literary insight into the other disciplinary/career-path interests of students.
