To provide students with techniques for effective written and oral communication in a bioscience context
The need for professional communication skills, models of communications, contextual and cultural factors in communication, ethical issues in communication. Writing summaries and abstracts from individual and multiple related articles. How to avoid plagiarism. The use of flow charts, concept maps and other note taking techniques. Harvard referencing skills for both in text and end text purpose. Sourcing information from encyclopaedias, textbooks, reference materials and electronic sources. Critical analysis of sourced information. How to formulate questions to assess the value of information. Learning how to use the Library, using electronic sources. Oral communication, seminar presentations.
