Course aim

The aim of this course is to develop a sound understanding of the principles and practical applications of evidence-based practice in health research.

Course content

Definition of evidence, evidence as a concept, criticism and limitations of evidence defined by research design and methodology, quality rating tools for different research designs, review and synthesise the literature using an evidence based approach, structured database searches, exploration of library databases and internet search facilities (for example Cochrane library, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE)), implementing evidence-based practice and challenges to behavioural change.
