To introduce students to significant issues and developments in sociological theory by examining the major themes and works of major sociologists.
The perspectives of some major sociological theorists and the issues important to them: Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Karl Mannheim, the Frankfurt School, , Foucault, Berger and Luckmann, ideology; sociology as a critical and emancipatory discipline; the social construction of reality; feminism; postmodernism; poststructuralism; the sociology of the ‘other’; sociological models; the application of theories to sociological concepts, practical issues and policies.
