Course aim

This course requires students to undertake a program of research writing and critical reflection which will develop and allow them to display advanced skills and understandings in research design and reporting, within the particular academic and professional conventions of their discipline, profession or industry.

Course content

Techniques for making structural and stylistic change in research writing and related delivery techniques, including discourse analysis, text analysis, semiotics, audience-reception/reader-response theory; the applied research process, including research project tendering, criteria design, statistical representation and report-summary, under the guidance of industry professionals; development of oral and visual skills in research presentation, ranging from contemporary audio-visual display to construction of extended research reports for spoken delivery; the development of a wide current range of research writing styles, the capacity to identify those research writing styles of most efficacy in given fields.; the tailoring of research design and reporting to accommodate cultural and micro-cultural sensitivities or special needs, internationally and in relation to multicultural or minority inclusivity.
