To provide students with an overview of current and emerging worldviews through a study of cosmologies, astronomy and space science.
The night sky: perception and conception; personal and other views of the cosmos including indigenous Australian views and past cultures; current scientific views of the creation of the cosmos; collecting evidence (personal observations, telescopes, space probes, spectroscopy, secondary sources); viability and confidence of evidence; theory building and testing. Evolution and creationism. Structure of the cosmos: solar systems, stars, planet, moons, galaxies. Living away from Earth; other life in space. Current and future space exploration; foresight, moral imperatives. Developing young people's ideas about the universe.
