To critically examine Australian government policies in relation to nationalism, cultural identity and the politics of representation.
Students will demonstrate and apply their knowledge to critically engage in and examine discussion and analysis of immigration, multiculturalism and the refugee policy, the history of the ‘white’ Australia policy, the social construction of whiteness and representations of whiteness in contemporary Australia, the media and national identity, racism and the media, anti-discrimination and anti-vilification legislation, fear and the politics of representation, Australia and Asian relations.
