Course aim

To introduce students to the design principles and elements of architectural structures and construction over a broad range of scales.

Course content

Students will be introduced to the relationship of order, structure, and construction in architecture through an investigation of fundamental structural principles, systems, and elements. Students will develop an understanding of the relationship between structure, space, and form; the behaviour of structures under load; and the supporting and enclosing functions of building. Students will apply basic skills in the appropriate selection of a variety of simple structural solutions across a range of scales.
