Course aim

To develop students' knowledge of theories and practices associated with social, cultural, environmental, and economic sustainability in the built environment.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge of the concepts and definitions of ecologically sustainable development and an understanding of the ethical role of the architect in society. Students will develop their skills and understanding of environmental modelling, ‘rating’ schemes, and legislation for analysis and design. Students will develop environmental-design skills and strategies; the application of technologies for energy production and storage; and knowledge of the reduction of resource use, pollution, and waste.
