To enable students to gain insights into and in-depth understanding of the societal characteristics, domestic political situations, economic development and foreign relations of Southeast Asian societies, as well as major current developments affecting the region, including its relations with Australia.
Students will gain knowledge of the socio-cultural aspects of Southeast Asian societies, which have contributed to the diversity of the region. Through this knowledge, they will be able to evaluate the impact of Western colonialism as well as the Japanese period which are essential for a further understanding of the subsequent social, economics and political developments of the region in the contemporary period, which have affected regional and global interrelationships.
