To further enhance students' understanding of the history, culture, politics and economics of the Northeast Asian region, from the mid-19th century and to develop students’ sound knowledge of the major events, factors and trends shaping the region and the significance of current developments in China and Japan upon the region and the world.
Students will explore the complexity of East Asian Civilizations, divergent responses to the challenge of the West, the impact of modernisation of Japan from the Meiji Restoration, and the implication of China's development. Students will be exposed to the integration of the regional and global economy within current political, social and security dimensions in the regions of Northeast Asia.
