Course aim

To enable students to reflect on their developing profile as a human service professional, and to learn ways of working effectively and ethically in the face of competing pressures.

Course content

Professional roles, responsibilities, identities and career development in the human services; professional identity; professional accountability; contemporary human service work contexts; cultural competence; managing time effectively; managing relationships in a dynamic and diverse professional environment; influencing and persuading to achieve desired outcomes; issues in written recording and reporting in the human services; coping with ambiguity; managing competing demands; decision-making models and application; thinking divergently and proactively; entrepreneurial thinking; working within an ethical decision-making framework; professional development.
