Course aim

To enable students to further develop their knowledge of social work theories and contribute to debates on contested theoretical positions in social work.

Course content

In this course students will further develop their knowledge of social work theory including cognitive behavioural theory, attachment theory, problem-solving theories, anti-oppressive practice, feminism, empowerment theory and post-structuralism. Students will investigate the historical development of social work thinking and critically analyse the strengths and limitations of these theories in their application to practice.
