To introduce the fundamental concepts and practice of engineering research and enable students to develop a proposal for a small research project under supervision.
Research design, qualitative and quantitative research, sources of data, data collection procedures, measurement strategies, questionnaire design, interviewing techniques, content analysis, literature surveys, information databases, statistical techniques, evaluation and writing of research reports, papers and theses, development of a research program, writing research proposals, the philosophy of a broad range of research methods, research methodology selection, interaction of research methodology and type of knowledge developed through the project.
