Course aim

To equip students with appropriate methods of data collection and analysis in a regional planning study, for the purposes of developing a regional planning strategy.

Course content

Definition and delineation of a region. Social, economic and environmental characteristics of a region. Historical context of regional planning. Regional development. Analytical tools and techniques used in regional planning. Geographic Information Systems in regional planning. Data collection, organisation and analysis. The regional planning process. Components of a regional planning strategy. Strategic planning at a regional scale.
