Course aim

To provide students with advanced cognitive, technical and communication skills to critically evaluate, analyse, generate and select solutions to design or improve an advanced manufacturing system.

Course content

Advanced manufacturing systems; flexible, high volume, computer integrated, process based facility layout and flow line and assembly systems, Group Technology, cellular manufacturing systems, scheduling and JIT manufacturing, lean production and agile manufacturing.
Smart manufacturing. Manufacturing performance indicators; manufacturing lead time, production time and rate, plant utilisation and capacity, time in process ratio
Manufacturing economics; costing concepts, product cost, equipment cost, and work-in-progress cost.
