To demonstrate the physical principles used in the design and management of buildings to create environmentally suitable and sustainable conditions.
Psychrometry and thermal comfort. Admission and exclusion of solar radiation. Resultant temperature, design heat loss/gain, ventilation and insulation. Thermal modelling software. Surveying of building case study. Energy efficiency, life cycle energy concepts, greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental considerations. Requirements of Australian Standard 1680. Introduction to lighting surveys and design methods. Control of noise. Noise annoyance and the community.
