To develop students' knowledge and skills for engaging in effective professional practice in Podiatry practice, incorporating elements of professional and legal responsibility, communication skills and behavioural change theory in various patient groups.
The legal and clinical responsibilities associated with communication in health, including familiarisation with Podiatry Acts and Regulations. The elements underpinning effective communication in a clinical and broader health context, such as: elements of effective communication, clinical interview skills, education, communicating across the ages, letter and report-writing, and working as part of a team. The importance of culture and the social determinants of health in the clinical context. Health behaviour and behaviour change strategies for the clinical context. Managing difficult interactions, including difficult patients, mental health issues, grief, anxiety, and communication disorders including brain injury.
