Course aim

To facilitate the development of skills in digital art, including virtual and new material practices, and critical thinking in order to engage in contemporary new media art practice.

Course content

This course provides students with an introduction to the history, themes and practices of new media art. It will equip students with foundational techniques and contextual understandings of a range of digital practices in contemporary art. Students will undertake a series of projects exploring concepts through different facets of media practice such as: networked and interactive artworks; video and animation; 3D printing; interactive systems and knowledge of art in both virtual and new material realms. In addition to gaining practical grounding in relevant digital processes as a means of contemporary artistic expression, students will examine the history of ‘new media’ and learn about contemporary artists currently working in the field.
