To investigate the cultural constructions of gender and to develop students' understanding of key themes, issues and art practices that address gender, identity & sexuality.
The cultural production of ‘woman’ as a sign, as other, as a site of sexuality and masculine desire; the relations between sex, gender and representation; the development within the visual arts of ideas such as identity, desire, difference and gender as performance and masquerade. New masculinities, the motherhood wars, fashion, the body and ‘image makeovers’ will all be addressed.
