Course aim

To introduce students to the changing role of photography during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Course content

Art, society and new technologies; changing models of representation; the role of the spectator; theories of the gaze; digital photography; popular culture and style; contemporary critical discourses; and linguistics and photographic representation.
