This course will enable final year students to further extend their art practice through intense studio work, to critically examine notions of construction and deconstruction as they impact upon the production of contemporary visual art and to locate their work within the relevant field of contemporary arts practice. It provides students with the opportunity to build upon research conducted in AAD Specialisation B, and there is an expectation that the work produced will reflect this in the degree of resolution, although the two courses may be taken in any order.
Students will work in a studio of choice as defined by their major study. The syllabus emphasises the importance of students developing an infirmed and self-critical approach to artmaking. Projects will reflect current issues in local and international arts practice. Students will devise, in consultation with the individual specialisation lecturer and the Course Coordinator, individual study programs - including appropriate aims, content and methodologies. Comparative studies of major art practice will be undertaken, involving studio practice and current discourse and research in the field. Students will have the opportunity to move outside of that discipline to fulfil their study aims.
