School of Natural and Built Environments
To enable graduates to develop the skills required by civil engineering professionals in negotiating, planning, designing, constructing and reporting civil engineering developments or schemes.
The course has no formal syllabus since a different development or project will be offered each year. Students will first develop a tender to produce a Feasibility Study for the development, then undertake the Feasibility Study, Concept Development and Detailed Design for the development. The course is undertaken by the class acting as consulting companies with the management and organisation of that company being the responsibility of the students. Regular meetings with the lecturers and clients will review progress and guide the teams in the projects. Each class company will be required to submit a complete concept design and reports on specified components of each project. Special advice on advanced environmental, heritage, social planning and technical design issues will be supplied as required.
