The aim of this course is to introduce the physiological adaptations to exercise and training and to summarise evidence for the health benefits of physical activity among children and adults.
Energy metabolism; neuromuscular control of movement; regulation of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, at rest and during exercise; adaptations of the cardiovascular, respiratory and neuromuscular systems to training; factors affecting the training response; special considerations for exercise in children; evidence for the role of physical activity in achieving and maintaining low risk of cardiovascular disease; proposed mechanisms linking physical activity and cardiovascular health; effects of common medications on cardiovascular responses to exercise.
