Course aim

To introduce techniques used in web data management and databases, including XML, distributed databases, data warehouses, data mining and other special databases.

Course content

XML databases: XML model, DTD, XSchema and constraints, XPath and XQuery

Concurrency and transaction management

Data organization, hash, indexes, query optimization, active databases, and procedures

Distributed database design, fragmentation, and replication

Distributed transaction

Data warehouse architecture and components

Data warehouse modelling: star and snow flake schema

Analysis: multidimensional OLAP and relational OLAP

Warehouse design, data uploading, updating and integration

Introduction to special purpose databases, NO SQL databases
