Rhetorical theories of form and function, and form and content. How language theory relates context, content, form and meaning. Institutions and what they have to do with meaning. Genre. Audience and the construction of audience. Current issues in publishing relating to form and function. Document design elements including visual and textual balance, typeface, layout, and readability; considerations in developing documents for the screen; style guides.
