Course aim

To acquaint students with crucial places and sites of cultural and communication practices, both global and local, and to examine the ways such places are both represented in media and located in everyday life.

Course content

Communication as culture; institutional practices and the creation of meaning; changing conceptualisations, representations and experiences of place; local, national and international identity and related policy debates; publics, politics and policy; introduction to field work and ethnography.
