To develop students’ proficiency in Italian language at an advanced level and extend their understanding of Italian literature and culture.
Students will enhance their Italian proficiency and analytical abilities through a study of advanced vocabulary, structures and text types drawn from a range Italian media developing high-level communication skills in Italian. Students will further develop cultural knowledge integral to the range of text types and through the Italian community participation program. Students will also investigate a selection of cultural texts drawn from key literary figures; national identity, patriotism, moral duty and alienation during Italy’s preindustrial nation-building era; continuities and crisis points of nineteenth century Italian culture and their relationship with present society.
