To enable students to gain knowledge of and experience in arts education theories and contemporary arts teaching that reflects and responds to diverse social and cultural contexts using methodologies associated with ‘best practice’ in middle and secondary schooling contexts.
Identification of and reflection on similarities and differences in the forms, functions and socio-political nature of the arts in diverse cultural traditions; planning and presentation of arts lessons that explore social and cultural contexts of arts practice; using arts teaching methodologies associated with aesthetic and contextual knowledge in conjunction with contemporary arts practice; undertaking research to generate ideas for using culturally-diverse arts resources to support the student as a learner in the arts; use of a variety of cultural resources and their incorporation in lesson planning appropriate to primary, middle and / or secondary arts education.
