Course aim

To understand different approaches and strategies in teaching English as an additional language and develop skills in evaluating, adapting and designing pedagogical practices that are socially and culturally responsive to particular circumstances.

Course content

Features of TESOL settings; factors affecting TESOL; learning resources; teacher agency in TESOL; principles of learning and teaching English as an additional language; setting up interactive learning; communicative, task-based, discourse and intercultural approaches; connections with other areas of learning (in educational institutions or the workplace); criteria for evaluating language learning activities, resources and assessment practices; principles for adapting and designing learning activities.
