Course aim

To familiarise students with the fundamentals of work health and safety (WH&S) management, legislation and the organisation for WH&S in Australia at state and federal levels.

Course content

Historical perspective on socio-legal issues - the British factory legislation, Robens Report and other key influences. The Constitutional, common law, statute law and administrative framework for WH&S. Introduction to injury causation, hazard identification, risk assessment and control. Interface between WHS, workers' compensation, EEO and industrial relations. Principles and systems for WH&S management
