Course aim

The aim of this course is to extend knowledge in human movement and health science into the area of health, exercise and sports psychology in order to determine the social, psychological and environmental factors that influence exercise behaviour, sport participation and human performance, as well as other health behaviours, and identify and apply individualised and appropriate best-practice behavioural strategies and theories in working with individuals in health, exercise, and sport domains.

Course content

Personality; motivation; health behaviour adherence and behaviour change; arousal and anxiety; stress, coping, and emotion; group and team dynamics; group cohesion; leadership; feedback and reinforcement; communication; competition and cooperation; aggression; character and moral development; physical activity/sport/exercise and psychological well-being; sport and physical activity related addictive and unhealthy behaviour; psychological aspects of burnout and overtraining; mental skills and strategies for peak performance and behaviour change; children’s psychological development through sport, exercise and physical activity; ageing and psychology in sport and exercise
