Course aim

The aim of this course is to introduce students to current methods of assessing energy expenditure and body composition and is to develop students’ skills of prescribing exercise for physical fitness and health.

Course content

Measuring energy expenditure using indirect calorimetry, telemetry, accelerometry and self report; measuring body composition using hydrodensitometry and bioelectrical impedance; secular trends in body composition among child and adult populations; prescribing training to improve aerobic and anaerobic fitness; prescribing physical activity to improve health; physiological responses to exercise and training among female athletes; appropriate exercise prescription for healthy aging.
