To provide an appreciation for modern multimedia development techniques and practices in a project team context, and to undertake a research based thesis in the multimedia area.
The project may be carried out by an individual or within a group, possibly in consultation with an industrial mentor. The group is supervised by a member of academic staff over two academic study periods. Each member of the group will keep a record detailing tasks allocated to them, tasks performed, time spent on various activities and interaction with other group members etc.; this record, which will be handed in with each phase of the project, may be requested by the supervisors at any meeting.
As part of this project, students will also undertake a research based component which will require them to evaluate or investigate some novel aspect of multimedia, and document this in the form of a thesis (multimedia or written). This component is individually performed and assessed within the context of the overall project. Honours may also be undertaken by thesis only as an alternative to project and thesis. Research methods education is included in the subject.
