To develop a practical knowledge of writing for live performers, including stage plays, educational theatre and standup comedy, modelled on arts and industry practices.
Students develop a working knowledge of script construction by creating a scenario - story plotting, developing characterisation and action and building dramatic tension with verbal and visual considerations and dialogue and sub text that underlie key themes. Students build analytic skills to identify dramatic genre, style and structure in different media. Awareness is gained in the use of dramaturgy and audience reception through workshop and tryout processes that develop and re-draft scripts via feed-back.
